Over 200,000 Burmese workers are estimated to work in Samut Sakhon’s fishing industry, most coming from from Mon villages in southern Burma. Most work in canneries under dangerous conditions, without proper healthcare, insurance or paperwork. Many work on fishing boats for months at a time, sometimes involuntarily.
